Excalibur’s Annual Chili Cook-off Challenge


We’ve often heard, “This is the best chili seasoning EVER,” from customers describing our Ultimate Chili Seasoning.

A long-time user favorite, the blend is an award-winning product that combines sugar, chili pepper, onion, garlic, salt and spices in just the right amount for your soups, stews and more.

Our employees love Ultimate Chili as well, but those who cooked their homemade recipes for the 2023 chili cook-off in November did not divulge on whether they secretly used the ingredient (or how much) for their tasty entries.

This year, Excalibur CFO Tom Shrier snagged first-place honors and the Hot Chili Pepper trophy. Second place ended in a two-way tie between R&D Food Technologist Kandice Wood and Customer Service Representative Amanda Fuelberth.

If your customers are looking for a tried-and-true chili recipe, here’s one to share from the Walton’s site:

In an 8-quart sauce pan add:

  • (3) 29 oz. cans of tomato sauce
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 shaker bottle (5.5 oz.) Ultimate Chili Seasoning
  • 2 lbs. of browned ground beef, (start with 3 lbs. of raw ground beef)
  • (3) 15.5 oz. cans of drained and rinsed red beans

Simmer for 1 hour.
