Excalibur’s Scott Werner Honored with the Prestigious Sleeter Bull Award

In late February at the Illinois Association of Meat Processors (IAMP) Convention, the industry gathered to celebrate one of its most dedicated leaders.

Excalibur Sales Consultant Scott Werner was honored with the University of Illinois Sleeter Bull Award, a distinction reserved for those who show unparalleled service and a lifelong commitment to the meat industry.

A Career Built on Expertise

Scott’s deep roots in the trade took hold at Weber Meats, where he spent nearly two decades (1989–2008) mastering the craft and ultimately overseeing their sausage production facility. In 2008, he brought that wealth of hands-on experience to Excalibur Seasoning. In his current sales role, Scott has evolved into a vital pillar of the industry—serving not just as a representative, but as a trusted mentor and resource for processors nationwide.

“Beyond his career, Scott has been deeply involved in both the Illinois Association of Meat Processors and the American Association of Meat Processors, serving on their Boards of Directors,” says Dr. Bailey Marsh, University of Illinois, who presented Scott with the award.

“His commitment to IAMP has been exceptional. During a three-year membership drive, Scott personally recruited numerous new members, helping strengthen and grow this organization. Personally, I’ve come to know Scott through his involvement in the IAMP Product Show. Year after year, Scott shows up, ready to judge, ready to help, and ready to support the next generation of processors.

“The kind of person always willing to lend a hand, make a call, or make a connection, Scott is exactly the kind of person this award is meant to recognize.”

A Foundation of Hard Work

Scott’s journey began in Cuba City, Wisconsin, where he developed a strong work ethic and community-first mindset that have defined his career. When he isn’t championing the industry, Scott’s world revolves around his family. He and his wife, Diane, have been married for 37 years and share a proud legacy of three children and four grandchildren—who are, by all accounts, his favorite company during his well-earned time away from the office.

From all of us at Excalibur Seasoning, thank you, Scott, for your service, leadership, and dedication to the meat & seafood seasonings industry.
